- I agree! I heard some of the other slaves are working on tobacco farms as well. The climate is almost the same as it is here on the cotton farm. I hate this!
- I'm so tired from working all day on this cotton farm here in the south, it is way to hot outside for this!!!
- On the cotton farms in the south the climate was very hot and dry but had the perfect soil for farm land so the slave masters put their slaves to work in order to earn cash from the crops this is called cash crops

- On the plantations women were often forced to be servants or housewives. Their masters were often very aggressive.

- I am being forced to be a servant. I am being told to do things that I do not want to do! I am very upset!
- I don't get why they can't grow their own cash crops! Why do all the black people have to do it!
- The south was essentially the worldwide source for cotton, tobacco, and mainly all the cash crops so for more crops they needed more slaves.

- No we should not have slavery when we apply for statehood! Money is not worth the health of innocent black people!
- When the new territories would apply for statehood there were many debates about whether slavery should be allowed.
