  • This is Ivy Drip, a PACU nurse of over 12 years. She loves her job, but sometimes it can be difficult to balance work and her personal life.The time is 7:00 AM, and she is just now clocking into work after getting her and her family ready for the day ahead.

  • After getting updates and reports from the other nurses, she begins making her rounds to check in on her patients. Today, she is caring for four different patients, so she starts doing her morning assessments and preparing their morning medications.

  • After doing her morning rounds, she receives a page from a patient named Steve pressing their call button. Steve starts berating Ivy for being slow and not bringing him a blanket hours ago.

  • After being called by Steve, she is immediately called into one of her other patient's rooms. The patient is having a hard time breathing and hit the call button, and by the time Ivy gets there, a code was called. Ivy urgently handles the situation, but can't help thinking that a complaining old man and a life-threatening issue use the same alert button.

  • Ivy remained in the ICU during this incident to assist the nurses and stabilise the patient. Once the patient was stable, Ivy returned to the PACU, receiving a new patient admission and handover from the nurse.

  • Ivy feels rushed as she continues to answer call buttons from her patients while still trying to manage to complete several of her to-do tasks remaining for her shift and focus on the other patients she is caring for.

  • After answering countless call bells of other patients, Ivy finally is able to return to her own patient, Steve, that she was hoping to check on earlier. Her patient is angry that he is at the hospital and tells Ivy that she is not doing enough.
