  • We know that the base for the triangle on the right is 7.5 inches and height is 10 inches. We have to use the pythagorus theorem to find the missing side. Lets use x as a variable for the missing side. So it is 7.5²+10²=x² which equals √7.5²+10²=x=√56.25+100=x=√156.25=12.5 inches.
  • Great! Now we need to find all the sides for the other triangle.

  • We can use the pythagorus theorem again. The height is 3 inches and the slanted slope is 5 inches, so we can use 5²-3²= the base squared, so it is √5²-3²= base= √25-9=√16=4. The base is 4.
  • Now we can calculate the angles inside the triangles, also we can see that the triangles are similar due to SSS similarity.

  • It's really easy, the triangle on the left has one right angle and 2 other equal angles, and a triangle always has to have all it's interior angles equal to 180. So we just have to do (180-90)/2, which is 45, so the other missing angles are both 45 degrees.
  • But how do we do that?
  • Oh ok, I get it. I know that the other triangle has 1 right angle, and 1 35° angle. So 180-90-35 is 45° which is the missing side.
