Montresor is mad at a former friend because he has insulted his family and wants to seek revenge on Fortunato.
Fortunato will pay for the way he has insulted me. Hes's caused a thousand injuries to me!
Montressor! Good evening, my friend.amontillado! Quite impossible. I will come and taste it for myself
montresor finds Fortunato at the carnival and tells him he has bought wine and he thinks that it might be amontillado but he is not sure and brings Fortunato to try it.
Fortunato! How are you? I have been tasting new wine and i have bought a cask of which they tell me is amontillado but i am not sure
I took down from their places on the wall two brightly burning lights
Fortunato and Montresor go to Montresors mansion and Montresor brings Fortunato with him to taste the wine.
Montresor lures Fortunato down to his basement to kill Fortunato. Fortunato does not know this and thinks he is going down to taste the amontillado.
They both say these lines with different meanings, one being Fortunato dying and the other meaning just leaving. Montresor starts piling the rocks after he shackles Fortunato and starts to bury him alive.
let us be gone! the others are waiting for us.
yes let us be gone.
After Montresor notices that Fortunato has died, he feels very guilty for what he has done and he kept the secret of Fortunatos death a secret for 50 years.
Fortunato! Fortunato!(My heart is feeling sick)
