  • The British signed a treaty with the Cherokee in order to prevent the Cherokee from trading with the French. They agreed and the treaty was signed. The British didn't want the Cherokee interacting with the enemies.

  • Thirty years before the French and Indian War, the French Fur traders arrived in South Carolina. They wanted to trade with the Cherokee. But, the Cherokee can't trade because they signed a treaty with the British, saying they couldn't. The British made sure the Cherokee didn't cheat the treaty code.

  • Peace lasted for thrity years, but was broken during the French and Indian War. The Cherokee favored the British and thought they were equal. The British thought they were in charge and failed to protect the Cherokee. The Cherokee felt cheated.

  • Since the Cherokee felt cheated, they took posession of British horses. The British attacked back, and the Cherokee retaliated. The royal governor of South Carolina tried to control the Cherokee by stopping all trade and taking Cherokee peace representatives as hostages. This led to the Cherokee War.

  • The Cherokee War lasted about two years. It was the British vs. the Cherokee, and it resulted lots of Cherokee deaths. The Cherokee lost many items, land, and people during this time. The war lasted from 1758-1761.

  • The treaty that ended the French and Indian War forced the Cherokee to give up lots of their land. It also created a boundary between the South Carolina colony and the Cherokee territory. All in all, the Cherokee was cheated by the British, lost the Cherokee War, and the treaty forced them to give up some of their land and created a border.
