Gilgamesh was a king of Uruk who's 2/3 god and 1/3 man. He was powerful but also arrogant king that abused his power. He wasn't really heroic because the whole adventure was meant of find eternal life for himself not anyone else.
After Gilgamesh rejecting being the goddess Ishtar's husband and then procceding to kill the Bull of Heaven sent by Ishtar...

Enkidu has now fallen severely ill and had a terrible dream...

After Enkidu's death, Gilgamesh leaves Uruk in despair. He decides to go and find Utnapishtim who was granted immortality...
How can I rest. how can I be at peace? Despair is in my heart. What my brother is now, that I shall be when I am dead.
*sniff* *sniff*
Because I am afraid of death, now I will go on a long journey in search of Utnapishtim, whom the gods gave eternal life....
