- It's the summer of 2022, and I am on my way to volunteer at Anna Julia Cooper School, AJC. My mom signed me up last spring and I'm really happy she did. That's me in the front seat of that car. I've been volunteering at AJC for only a days now but I love everyone there. I'm enjoying my time here at the school.
- My friend, Maya, and I are volunteering with the kindergarteners. The kids are so adorable, but They are not good listeners they only listen to teach Ms. Robinson. She is extremely nice but strict with the kids.
- Good mornging guys!
- We are going to go in the cafeteria and have some breakfast.
- YAY!
- YAY!
- Kids look at and litsen to Ms. Morgan and Ms. Maya.
- Some of their parents can't afford food so they have to eat at school. They eat everything off their plates every time.
- Well then eat up! You get to have as much as you want here!
- That's so sad.
- At home we don't get food much.
- After breakfast, we head outside to the playground. The playground is the best part for the kids. They get to run free and have fun. Although it was supposed to be a great experience, Maya and I had a sad experience. We look at each other and both mouth something to each other.
- Yeah, it's the girl. I think she gets the smell from her someone in her house.

- Helping the kids with their homework is fun to me. I love helping them and hearing thier interesting stories... sometimes.
- He's going to love it!
- Oh My Gosh! I feel terrible for this little girl!
- When my daddy gets out of jail I'm going to give this to him
- After AJC, all could think about was what those kids said today and how poor little girl smelt like cigars. I decided to talk to my mom
- Mom, today some kids said things that I can't get out of my head.
- yeah, you're right. It's just sad
- One boy said he doesn't get fead in the morning, one girl talked about how her father was in jail, and another girl smelt like cigar.
- Now go shower!
- Some people don't have what we have. That little girl doesnt know anything else other than her father being in jail.
- What were the kids saying?
