  • Usher proverb that "sleep came not near my couch-while the hours waned and waned away" this clearly shows that Usher was unable to sleep impacting the text as he couldn't sleep

  • "vacant eye like windows" This speech shows the condition of the windows showing the bad maintenance and shape this contributes to the story as the condition of the house is compared to the usher's eyes since they are both in bad shape

  • The narrator describes the terrific shock he had when he saw that the house was struck by lightning then it disappeared. This contributes to the story as it showed all that has happened which was the house vanishing.

  • The author says in the text "perceptible fissure which extending from the roof of the building in front, made its way down the wall in a zigzag direction." This contributes to the story as the crack in the house shows the family of Usher and his sister being separated by death which the crack is what segregates the existing home when they die

  • The usher is getting prepared to send his letter to the narrator "The writer spoke of acute body illness which oppressed him and of an earnest desire to see me, as his best and indeed his only personal friend" This has an important impact on the story as if the letter was not sent to the narrator he would never have known the unspeakable things Usher was facing inside the house.

  • Usher says in this part of the story "perish this deplorable folly." This shows that Usher accepts his fate. This contributes to the story as by accepting his fate he is leaving behind his fears and the house.
