In the year 1984, the government has control of all aspects of people's lives. Winston, who is apart of the middle class, lives in an apartment by himself covered in screens that monitor his every move. He finds a corner that is not able to be seen by the telescreens, and decides to write in an empty book he bought at a shop in the poorer area of London.
Winston writes down his thoughts, which consist mostly of his hatred for the party, and his past experiences. He knows that by writing these thoughts down that he is immediately a criminal. As long as nobody finds his journal, he should be fine.
