- Odysseus, disguised as a beggar, now enters his home with Eumaeus
- Odysseus now confronts antinous for being so selfish and unwise. He insults him for nit wanting to give away anything even when he sits at the table of another man
- Odysseus sits in the threshold and watches the suitors eat while his son Telemachus, notices him and calls Eumaeus over
- Take this bread and give it to the beggar, and invite him to our company
- Antinous, the most insolent of the suitors, then notices the beggar and asks Eumaeus why he has brought such filth while Telemachus defends is father
- You want us to drive this beggar out? No Antinous, give him something for the sake of this house
- Eumaeus! Why did you bring this man here? Why should this worthless man come and eat your masters food?!
- You have beauty Antinous, but not wisdom. You wouldn't even give a grain of salt from your own home . And now you sit at the table of another man, you don't give anything from what is plentiful
- Antinous is then provoked and bashes Odysseus on the back with with a chair
- After receiving such a blow to the back, Odysseus now recovers and is angered by Antinous. He vows that Antinous will receive the punishments of death and shame him for such a cowardly action
- Wooers of the great queen, hear me, for the blow that Antinous has given me shows nothing but shame and pain. May antiinous receive not a wedding but the issues of death
- Sit down and eat or else you shall be forced to leave!
- Odysseus Now sits back down as Penelope begins to ask Eumaeus about Odysseus. All while, Odysseus continues to watch the wooers while they feast as he plans their demise as well as their leader Antinous
