- Hey Mr. Bird! Oh, wait! I actually don't know if you are a Mrs. or a Mr.!
- Ha! How about I tell you my chromosomes and you can figure it out then!
- Okay, sure!
- birds and butterflies have ZW chromosomes instead of XY like you. So, if I'm ZZ what does that mean?
- Wow, those are some weird chromosomes! If you're ZZ, then you're female!
- Actually, that's incorrect. I'm a homogametic male. ZZ males demonstrate traits which make them fit as a male, but would be disastrous for females.
- Oh, I get it! It's in order to try and pass down the trait that males need to survive, and not give it to the daughters.
- Exactly! The thing is, no one is sure how it happened. Although the ZW and XY chromosomes are very alike they are also very different.
- Wow, I wish I had ZW chromosomes, XY is so boring!!
- Well ,I gotta run. See ya MR. Bird, thanks for the biology lesson!
