This is the rusty ruins
Tally goes to visit Peris in New Pretty town. She crashes a party and Peris tells her to go home and not get into any trouble before her 16th birthday.
Tally meets Shay after she escaped new pretty town and Shay teaches her how to hoverboard. Tally eventually gets pretty good at it.
Shay takes Tally to the Rusty Ruins, an old uncivilised town from century's ago. Tally is concerned about getting into trouble for passing the out of bounds area. Shay tells her about the smoke and David. A mythological place that uglies have talked about before.
Shay decides to leave for the Smoke and tries to convince Tally to come with her. Tally disagrees but Shay gives her some clues just incase she ever wants to leave for the smoke
Special circumstances find out about Shay and they tell Tally she will never be pretty unless she goes to find pretty town and alert them of the location. Tally eventually agrees but feels bad for betraying Shay.
Tally arrives at the smoke and meets David. She was supposed to alert special circumstances of her location but she does not. She eventually falls in love with David and throws the locket which has a tracker in it in the fire
