Hazel had a perfectly average intelligence, which meant she couldn't think about anything except in short bursts. And George, while his intelligence was way above normal, had a little mental handicap radio in his ear.
There were tears on Hazel's cheeks, but she'd forgotten for the moment what they were about.
Go on and restthe bag for a little while, she said. I don't care if you're not equal to me for a while.
I don't mind it, he said. I don't notice it any more. It's just a part of me.
I am the Emperor! cried Harrison. Do you hear? I am the Emperor! Everybody must do what I say at once! He stamped his foot and the studio shook.
Gee- said Hazel, I could tell that one was a doozy.
You can say that again, said George.
I think Kurt Vonnegut is saying we all have different talents and we should not be suppressed because other people are not as good as us in specific areas. We are all unique in our own ways and will never be exactly the same. By taking away people's talents, we are simply taking away from all the benefits our world could receive from entrepreneurs. Of course it is important for everyone to have the same rights and respect but that does not mean we should all be the same. We determine how much prosperity we gain in the future and should not undermine those who have worked so hard for it. In this story, the government is suppressing those with talent and making everyone equal which overall is bringing everyone down.
