  • Aztec women were effective and powerful figures. Some women stayed home to take care of the children and to repair clothes, but other women were artisans or craftspeople and sold their creations in the many different markets that were important to the Aztec economy which is what the image above shows.
  • Most women in the Inca civilization worked as housewives. Throughout the day they would cook, clean, take care of their children, and make clothes. But there were some chosen women that were "Virgins of the Sun”. Their duties included the preparation of ritual food, the maintenance of a sacred fire, and the weaving of garments for the emperor and for ritual use.
  • Women in the Mayan civilization were fairly equal to men. They were looked at as important in Maya society since they bore the children. Women were mainly housewives taking care of cooking , weaving, and cleaning, but they could also take place in economic and political discussions, as well as practice farming.
