The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military engagements of the American Revolution. These battles were what started the war. The Americans shot at the British soldiers that had a secret mission and began to head towards the colonist rebel leaders and destroy the weapon caches that they had. The first shot in this battle then went on to be called "The shot heard around the world."

After they surrendered, the British signed a treaty which is known as the Declaration of Independence. This law stated that the colonies were now their own country, and they were not part of Britain and formed the United States of America.
