- Hello, Ms. Tiana! I am Angie and I am here to take care of you.
- Emerging Identities
- A 21-year-old transwoman named Tiana was rushed and confined in the hospital because she was experiencing anxiety attacks due to her parents' pressure and her upcoming final exams.
- Empathy
- Almost every night, I kept on thinking about my academic performance.
- This was the first time Tiana and her nurse, Angie, met. Both of them are still adjusting to the presence of each other. Nurse Angie introduced herself to Tiana and asked her questions about how she wanted to be addressed and to assess her health.
- Sympathy
- Okay Tiana, this is what we will do so that we can alleviate your distress...
- At this point, Tiana and Angie's relationship begins to form. Both of them recognized their individuality. They became aware that they are different individuals with different experiences, and they should not put each other in a box and be quick to judge.
- Rapport
- This phase is where Angie will co-experience and relate to Tiana's psychological state so that she will be able to understand Tiana and so that Angie will be able to predict Tiana's behavior. This will help their relationship become therapeutic.
- Sympathy happens when the nurse wants to lessen the cause of the patient's suffering. At this point, Angie will now translate sympathy into helpful nursing actions. After Tiana shares her experiences, Angie will now use a disciplined intellectual approach and therapeutic use of self to help ease Tiana's problem.
- Rapport is described as nursing interventions that lessen the patient's suffering. At this point, actions that alleviate the suffering of Tiana have been implemented. Due to this, Tiana is now showing trust and confidence in Angie.
