An info on cults

I'm studying the Manson case and I've found some things. Y´know Susanne, cults recruit new by people present themselves in non threatening situations and go after vulnerable people who are looking for community, purpose or an escape.
It is pretty scary but its kind of hard for them to recognize at first. Cults often have a ¨charismatic¨ leader whom the community follows without question and come together as a community.

I know right? In search for community it leaves them open to influence through simple conversation on their ideologies, later on control and finally isolation from others or the world.
It's unfortunate how big events in the world can kick start cults at times or increase the likelihood of them increasing because of the fact that it leaves so many people vulnerable and scared.

On top of that the emphasis on identity change and becoming ¨reborn¨ in a sense with the new ideals which can lead to lasting effects on mental health and identity even when people leave reminds me of a couple of our previous units.
Right?! I feel like this would be an amazing topic to cover with our students!
