Good Afternoon! I need to check your blood pressure. I need to ensure you don't have hypertension
How will you check my blood pressure? And what is hypertension?
I will use two instruments to manually check your blood pressure. One is a sphygmomanometer and the other is a stethoscope. Blood pressure is the measure of the force exerted by blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps blood throughout your body.
It is important to know that your organs are receiving proper blood flow. During ventricular contraction, the left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood into the aorta and through the arteries to the body this gives us the systolic pressure. The diastolic pressure is the relaxation phase between beats during this the ventricles fill with blood.

WOW! that is such an interesting process.. but what is hypertension?
First, I'll have you sit with your legs uncrossed and your body relaxed. Crossing your legs will result in a higher reading due to the restriction of blood flow. I'll place the sphygmomanometer around your arm and check for a brachial pulse, this is where I will place the stethoscope. I will inflate the cuff until 180 and begin to release the air, and listen for a noise called Korotkoff sounds. If I hear it immediately, I'll inflate it more. The first time I hear a beat will be your systolic pressure, the last time will be the diastolic pressure.

Wow! Blood pressure sure is interesting and really easily affected. I think it is important for me to maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep my blood pressure under control.
Hypertension means high blood pressure. A person needs to consistently have readings above 130/80 or higher to be considered hypertensive. A blood pressure of 120/80 is considered healthy. Blood pressure can be affected by diet exercise, medicine, dehydration, gender, age, weight and many other things.
