A long time ago, a husband and wife lived without a kid. They prayed to God for one at all hours of the day and night.
Their hopes were finally answered. A baby boy was born to the woman. He was a sluggish adolescent. People began to refer to him as Juan Tamad as a result of this.
Juan purchased a kilo of crabs. He carefully placed them in his basket. He then began walking back to his house.
His mother once advised him to go to the market and buy crabs. Juan picked up the basket and continued on his way.
He noticed some large, fat crabs in the store. "Mother will be overjoyed," Juan stated. "Coconut milk will go well with these crabs."
He ran into some of his friends on the way. "Come, Juan, join us; we're playing tumbang preso," remarked Berto, his next-door friend.
Juan wanted to play with them, but he had to return home with the crabs. For lunch, his mother had to prepare them.
Finally, he came up with a solution. "You must go home immediately. Mother is waiting for you," Juan said to the crabs in the basket. "See this road?Just continue straight until you reach the gumamela bush. Enter the front door and proceed for the kitchen. You will undoubtedly see Mother there." Juan then flipped the basket and released the crabs.
Juan had a great day playing with his friends. He became hungry after a time. "It had to be lunchtime," he speculated. "I'm looking forward to eating the crabs."
"Why aren't they here yet, Mother? I ordered them to go home on their own; they must have gotten lost," Juan explained.
His mother's angry voice greeted him with, "Juan, where have you been? Did I not ask you to purchase some crabs? I have nothing to cook for lunch."
"Because of your foolishness, you will only have rice and salt for lunch."
His mother exclaimed, "Oh, Juan, what a dumb lad you are! Don't you know that crabs cannot travel home by themselves?"
