William Marbury, I am going to appoint you as well as other Federlist to the judge seats!

Madison, I want you to cease those appointments that Adams created
Okay President Jefferson, I will make sure those commissons are gone.
I want to sue Madison for removing me from being a judge. I also want the supreme court to issue a Writ of Mandamus.
Adams ran against Jefferson in the presidential election of 1800 but Adams lost the race. Congress then passed the Judicary Act of 1801 which allowed Adams to appoint more men to judge. During the few weeks that Adams was in office, he appointed Federalist judges to make life miserable for Jefferson. One of those was WIlliam Marbury.
Once Jefferson became president he did not send out the commissions that Adams had. He told James Madison to cease the appointments.
Marbury thought it was unfair that Madison had removed him from his position so he sued Madison. He then went to the supreme court to ask them to issue a writ of mandamus.
