In The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street by Rod Serling, one of the main theme is fear and suspicion are destructive. According to Don And he never did come out to look at that at that thing that flew over head. He wasn't even interested. Why? Why didn't he come out with the rest of us too look? (76). This meant they were fear or suspicion for Steve because he never came out when everybody else came out when that thing flew overhead. According to Woman One I'd see Mr. Goodman here in the wee hours of the morning standing out in front of his house... looking up at the sky. That's right. Looking up at the sky as if... as if he were waiting for something. As if he were looking for something. (77) They gained fear and suspicion for Mr. Goodman because Woman One is telling the group that sometimes, she would see Mr. Goodman standing outside in front of his house looking up at sky in the middle of night as if he was waiting for an alien or something. According to Charlie "Go ahead, Steve. What kind of "radio set" you workin' on? I never seen it. Neither has anyone else. Who you talk to that radio set? And who talks to you?" (81). Charlie gained suspicion for Steve because Steve has been working on this radio in his basement but Charlie hasn't seen it and neither has anyone else. And if Steve does have the radio, who does he talk to and who talks to him because Charlie thinks Steve is talking to aliens through the radio. In conclusion, never over fear or over suspicion because sometimes, it can leas to destructive.
