Randle Lewis Fever 1793

Fever 1793 is a historical fiction book about a girl named Mattie who survived the yellow fever epidemic of 1793. The scene that stood out to me was when Mattie reunited with Eliza after many struggles and wandering the streets with Nell. Mattie’s Grandfather had just died and she was walking the streets aimlessly. She then heard cowering from an open doorway and found an orphaned child whose mother had just died. Mattie knew she couldn’t care for Nell, so she went looking for someone who could. She was recommended to take Nell to Reverend Allen’s group. She went looking for his group. When she was looking she saw someone who looked like Eliza. Mattie chased after her but lost her. After a while, she shouted for Eliza. A woman responded and Mattie heard a door close. She saw Eliza and rushed toward her and hugged her tight. This scene is important to the book because Mattie now has someone to rely on and it’s the first time Mattie’s been with Eliza since near the beginning of the book.
