Coal! What is coal. Coal can be black or brownish-black. It's a sedimentary rock with high amounts of carbon and hydrocarbons. Coal is a nonrenewable resource because it takes millions of years to form. Coal also contains ancient plants that lived in swampy forests.
Cost
Cost! The cost of the coal is $28.88 per short ton or $36.14. Did you know 80% of existing U.S coal plants are more expensive to keep up than replacing them with new wind and solar projects.
Efficiency. The average coal-fired power plant in the U.S operates near 33% efficiency. Most efficient coal fired power plants only operate at around 44%. So 56% of the energy is lost.

Is coal beneficial to North Carolina??Yes, coal is beneficial because all of the coal is consumed and used for electricity generations.Coal is North Carolina’s main source of energy and it’s inexpensive. Coal does have some downsides for example a new draft permit put no limit on how much coal could be burned at the same time. Which ended up causing to much pollution. Another downside is that the pollution from the coal caused serious health issues.
