Lizabeth is the main character of Marigolds. Lizabeth, 14 and her brother, Joey, about 12, both look for fun in their boring town in rural Maryland during the Great Depression.
Climax
Lizabeth! Stop please!
Joey and the kids around the neighborhood were bored. They convinced Lizabeth to come with Miss Lottie's with them so they could have fun terrorizing Miss Lottie.
Falling Action
Lizabeth wakes up in the middle of the night and hears her parents talking about their struggles. She decides to ask Joey to sneak out with her.
Resolution
Man, I feel bad about pulling Miss Lottie's marigolds.
Lizabeth and Joey end up going to Miss Lottie's house. Lizabeth goes on a rampage and ends up destroying all of Miss Lottie's marigolds. Miss Lottie comes outside of the house and catches Lizabeth.
Miss Lottie!
Lizabeth regrets pulling the marigolds in her rage state. Miss Lottie is just looking at the marigolds with no emotion. She never plants anymore marigolds. This was the moment Lizabeth lost her innocence and gained compassion.
Lizabeth realizes that was the moment of her womanhood starting and her childhood ending. She later in life realizes that the marigolds Miss Lottie planted were the only thing that was positive in her life.
