Lizabeth is the narrator with the other charcaters being Miss Lottie, and her little brother Joey. The conflict that is presented is she lived in poverty through rough times. Around the 1930s during the time of the Great depression.
Climax
After going to bed the voices of her parents conversing made her wake up. Her father was having a hard time finding work to support his family. Lizabeth then hears her father cry for the first time.
Falling Action
Lizabeth sneaks out of her house. She begings letting her emotions take over. Her poor decisions and actions are fueled by her emotions.
Resolution
She then makes the impulsive decisions to run through Miss Lottie's beautiful garden and destroys all her marigolds. One of the only beautiful objects that was left was destroyed by an impulsive Lizabeth.
When she looks up Miss Lottie is looking down at her. While she doesn't see her as a witch, but as a defeated old woman who took the risk of trying to create beauty in the midst of an ugly depression.
Lizabeth comes to the realization too late as tthe damage was already done. Seeing Miss Lottie in such a state od despair she comes to see her actions of innocence were never really acts of innocence. She is no longer full of innence, but is now ridden with feelings of compassion are born.
