Sir. They are bribing us to pay a lot of money for a meeting.
What?! I have to pay a bunch of money in order to have a peaceful conversation with France?!

The XYZ affair was happening when America decided to have Britain as one of the trade partners(Britain and France weren't on good terms). When America wanted to settle things France wanted a lot of money to talk with America. When word got out the public was very upset.

I just wanted to preach and talk about my religions here since I can't in my country

John Adams put these immigrants in prison, due to the tensions between France. He even sent some of them back to their home country. Now they are sad and just want to have freedoms and liberties and they can't.

You all are going to prison! Get off the street!!
This act made protest and the press illegal. Federalist thought it would prevent crisis, but Americans thought it was violating their rights. So these are the Americans protesting against the act.
