- Perseus and his mother had lived on the island for some time. Perseus and his mother, Danae, had been locked in a chamber for a long period of time until they were put into a chest and thrown into the sea. They had then floated to the shore of an island and met Dictes, a fisherman, and Polydectes, the king of the island. Danae had also become a servant in Polydectes palace. Polydectes and Dictes had both fallen in#160;love with Danae. However, Polydectes being a king, he forced Danae to marry him.

- Perseus was ordered to get the Gorgon's head by Polydectes as gift for his wedding with Danae. Polydectes knew that Pereus wouldn't be able to get him a gift considering that he was just a poor servants son. This was all apart of Polydectes malicious plan to get rid of Perseus once and for all.
- CROSSING THE THRESHOLD
- Perseus did not want to part ways with his mother. However, he was determined to get the head of the Gorgon in time for the wedding.Perseus had to deliver his promise to Polydectes.
- TESTS / ALLIES / ENEMIES
- Perseus seeks advice from the goddess Athena. Athena granted Perseus with a gleaming shield, a sword, a pouch for the Gorgon's head, and the helm of darkness. Hermes had granted Perseus with a pair of winged sandals. Perseus was equipped with everything he needed, now he just had to seek out the Phorcides.
- Perseus must seek out Medusa, but his first task is to seek out the phorcides. The phorcides will tell Perseus where Medusa is located. Perseus was warned that He should use the gleaming shield to look at Medusa's reflection because if he looked at Medusa he would instantly be petrified.
- Perseus now has Medusa's location. Perseus must prepare for what is to come. Perseus will travel to the edge of the world where Medusa is awaiting.
