- The issue I chose is very relevant to teachers today. Student spend an unruly amount of time on their phones and distracted in class. Studies show that "cell phones in classrooms disrupts the learning process, as evidenced by declining test scores and increasing reports of classroom distractions, with low-income students often the most affected" (Scroll less, learn more, 2024). This article talks about potential solutions for this issue. The source cites that "initiatives are being launched to limit the use of cell phones in schools. Virginia’s Governor Younkin issued an executive order directing the department of education to draft guidance for adoption of policies to create a cell phone-free environment" (Scroll less, learn more, 2024). This site also states that "Parents play a pivotal role in helping to ensure that students limit their cell phone and social media access" (Scroll less, learn more, 2024).

Overall, this article promotes state legislators to act, teachers to teach digital literacy, and for the teachers or school districts to have a place for students to store their phones during school hours. These solutions along with engaging lessons that make students forget about their phones can help teachers solve the cell phone issue in the classroom.
