- There he is!!!
- It's US Captain Ernest Medina from Charlie company.
- He gave the order to kill innocent people at My Lai.
- What is so bad about him?
- On the 16th March 1968 in the Vietnamese village of My Lai, US soldiers shot innocent Vietnamese men, women and children.
- How many people were killed in the My Lai massacre?
- Over a period of 4 hours, between 374- 504 unarmed Vietnamese civilians were killed. During this time, US soldiers also had a lunch break.
- I can't believe this!! Tell me more.
- Following orders from Captain Medina, officers killed all the livestock, set houses and food supplies on fire. Official photographer Ron Haeberle documented these events. Some pf his photographs included dead children, offciers setting houses alight, children protecting their younger siblings before being shot.
- Why did he kill all those people?
- We learn about history so we learn from our mistakes and hopefully prevent horrible events like this occuring in the future.
- Misinformation about the wherabouts of the Vietcong and possibly paranoid about identifying the Viet Cong as they had no uniform. Captain Medina may have also been suffering from some PTSD from previous experiences in the Vietnam War.
