  • The law was a way to help the ruler to rule the empire, the ruler will give punishment to the people who break the law so the ruler can use the law to organize the empire. The rulers of the city-states were kings they often saw as chosen by gods. In 1792 BC Hammurabi became the king, Hammrabi was one of the greatest leaders in Babylon. He wrote a law, this code listed about 300 laws that explained what was allowed and how people would be punished if they broke the rules. This helped keep the balance and safety of the empire.

  • Most Mesopotamians were farmers, they grew crops and raised animals like sheep and goats, and other people will be scribes, teachers, weavers, or potters. Women had rights, they could own their own businesses and land, they all believed their job was important. The Craftspeople in Mesopotamia will trade some goods like textiles or ceramics for food and other essentials but sometimes they might need to walk for a long time to trade. So the two rivers became the way to trade goods for a long way by boat so they don’t need to transport for a long way, so the two rivers really helped trading for a long way and connecting distant cities.

  • In Mesopotamia, kings had the most power, then scribes, priests and merchants, farmers and laborers formed the largest class, the people at the bottom of the social class were slaves. The rulers of the city-states were called kings, they were often seen chosen by god. Farmers in Mesopotamia grew crop and raised animals, Male slaves worked in agriculture or their owner's business, while female slaves worked as domestic servants.
