- In 1519 Pineda set out from Jamaica to map the Gulf of Mexico. He was the first European to observe the Texas Coast. The mission was not finished, and some of his men were arrested by Hernan Cortez.
- Coronado
- No gold here!
- In 1519, the aztects viewed Cortes and his men as gods because of their horses,firearms, and metal armor. The aztects enemies and the Spanish were able to overthrow the aztects. This gave Spain an area of the mainland to use as a base of operations. They became very rich.
- La salle
- Hey guys..

- In 1526 Cabeza de Vaca was exploring Florida, the expedition got lost and was forced to go back to Mexico in boats. The boats got caught in a hurricane, him and his men were shipwrecked on the Galveston Island. The karankawas gave them food, and shelter.From 1528, to 1536 Cabeza and his men traveled from tribe to tribe.
- In 1540, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado and over 1000 men went into search for gold. Although they did find some now -famous natural features like the Grand Canyon, and The Pacific Ocean, but no gold. Since there was no gold there in Texas, the Spanish ignored Texas and took interest in another area in 1648.
- In 1685, Already famous La salle set out with 4 ships full of supplies and colonists, he lost a ship along the way to pirates. He then arrived at the Matagorda Bay in Texas. He tried to build a fort to get along with some of the Indians, but unfortunately, they didn´t get along. The colony also faced problems with drought, and disease. By 1687 La salle was killed by his own men.
