Florence MIlls experienced a lot of racism and discrimination throughout her life, as well as being born into poverty. But she persevered and she is now known as one of the most popular jazz performers.
As Well as performing, Florence MIlls also appeared on many shows such as 'Shuffle Along,' 'Plantation Revue', and 'Blackbirds. ' This is how she gained her her fame.
Florence MIlls made an impression of lifting people's spirits with her upbeat jazzy style, and making people happy, getting the name 'The Queen of Happiness'.
Florence MIlls has won many awards and achievements including, "Preservation of Our Heritage, American Dance" award, Oklahoma City University 1999, and "Woman of Distinction" Award for the Detroit Tap Festival, 2000.
Not only was she a star, but also a role model, and as "an ambassador of goodwill from the blacks to the whites... a living example of the potentialities of the Negro of ability when given a chance to make good".
