- Amos is one of the minor prophets as he lived as a shepherd during king Uzziah's reign over Jerusalem. Gave warnings to Israel and its cities for the crimes it has committed and presents a unique punishment for each. With his personality appearing to be adamant on god's message as his book goes into specific and artistic detail.
- Other Messages
- Israel at the time was returning back to old habits due to constant internal conflicts. Breaking much of the codes in Leviticus such as son and father sharing the same women or exploitation of the poor. Just like in the times of judges god gave amos visions to preach around the major citys.
- Modern Day Views
- Amos preached around the state of Israel of the folly of their sins. Each city sin will be given punishment, plagues would be use like the ones in Egypt, burning of city's and the eventual exile of the Israelite. - The punishments were not also not place on Israel itself but also its enemies such as the Assyrians and Syrians who been in conflict and all other powers who proves a threat to Israel. Exploitation, robbery, lawlessness grow rampant which the book of Amos warns about to the Israelite with the problems plaguing us not resolve a punishment may be given in some kind.
- The Book of Amos reflects upon the social and political downfall of Israel due to not following in god's teachings creating a results of decay and sin . Amos was sent to warn the people of Israel to return back to the teachings but kick out as result. Sealing the fate of the fall with the eventual exile.
