- frank my boy, you know he lies when he's sick. are you sure you want to go?

- he always lies, won't be any different.
- Frank rides his horse to parsons gap to meet up with his father.
- yeah i got you. do you know eldon starlight?
- got a smoke kid?
- thanks ma'am
- yeah i got you. do you know eldon starlight?
- yeah i know of em. he's in one of these houses here.
- got a smoke kid?
- got big didn't ya.want to go to lunch?
- im franklin.
- you need to take me into the wilderness and bury me face up facing east
- ok i've got nothing better to do
- i'm going home now
- ok i'll go sleep in the barn with my horse
- look at this shit baby frank, this gun will be yours one day.
- wow thats great man.
- franklin was eager to start using a gun and go out hunting but first he had to get good with the .22 but once before he was allowed to go hunting he had to learn to track, he had to learn how the animal thinks. the kid was only 9 when he shot his first deer and when he did he cried. when he was done crying he had to walk up and cut the deer's throat.by the time the kid was 11 the old man had given him a gun, by then he had hunted deer, elk, moose and bear.
- my liver is failing because all of the drinking kid i'm going to die soon. oh yeah i almost forgot can you buy me a few bottles for the trip.
- damn ok ill need some money, then we'll leave.

- when eldon was young he worked for a guy named jenks in a logging camp. eldons mother worked as a cook for the camp and after a while her and jenks became a couple. after only a month eldon could start seeing bruises on his mother from jenks. she told him not to do anything. a few weeks later eldon hears him hit her from outside the cabin so eldon and jimmy both run in there to find jenks on top of eldons mom and he's choking her. they both attacked jenks and jimmy ends up stabbing and injuring him. they both ran away because the cops would come after them. they never went back.

- when franklin was 11 his father invited him t come or for his birthday. when he got there his father wasn't drinking and he had a nice girlfriend named jenna. his father gave him a fly fishing rod for his birthday and they went out fishing. his father went downstream a little bit and when he came back frank could smell the booze on his breath. franklin put him in the truck and drove him home.

- eldon tells franklin the story about when he was in war with jimmy in korea. they spent the day in the trenches waiting and using the helmet toilet and the nights out patrolling. jimmy and eldon were sent out for advanced reconnaissance. when they were out jimmy was shot by a chinese soldier so eldo jumped on top of him to stop him from screaming. eldon had to stab jimmy so that he wouldn't give away their position. he was only 18 and he had never told anyone about it. after the war he returned home and took any job he could and was living paycheck to paycheck. he became a regular customer at Charlies.
- At charlies one day there was a man and beautiful woman dancing with lots of people watching and when eldon sat back down there was an older man sitting across from him. he said his name was bunky and offered to buy eldon a drink. there was a little bit of a fight so the old man went over and helps the guy up and returned to the table with eldon. the woman came over to the table and told the the old man it was the bravest thing she'd ever seen and she said her name was angie.later when eldon was at work a truck came in. it was bunky and angie, bunky told eldon he had some work for him if he was interested. he said he would get a couple weeks work putting up 10 acres of fencing and he would get a place to stay and food. bunky drove them to the farm and they had some a meal then bunky led eldon out to the tractor and showed eldon what he wanted fenced off.
- eldon had a big ol crush on angie and he started looking t her more when bunky wasn't around. eldon finished the fencing job and that night angie appeared in his room. they had some thurroly detailed sex and bunky walked in on them. bunky was not happy with eldon but he sent them off with some money and the truck because he knew she liked Eldon more than him. in the fall angie found out she was pregnant with Eldons kid. when she was ready to have the kid eldon was stress drinking and he was drunk when he drover to to the hospital. he was a little bit late and angie died during birth. after that eldon brough the baby (franklin) to his friend bunky to take care of. he agreed and raised franklin.
- and that was pretty much how my whole life went i'.m going to sleep now
- ok then goodnight.
- oh no i think hes dead.
- well that sucks i better head home now.
