The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Fear and suspicion are destructive.
One major theme of The Monsters are Due on Maple Street by Rod Sterling is that Fear and suspicion are destructive. My first example to support this theme is when Tommy was suspicious that Steve and Charlie might not comeback. The reasoning on why this analyzes to my theme (Fear and suspicion are destructive) is because as soon as Tommy said that Steve heard what Tommy had said , and noticed all of the unusual things that happened on that day on Maple Street. The second example is when the residents of Maple Street started believing Steve is the real monster. This suspicion first caught on when Charlie had spoken to Steve saying You sound real anxious to have that happen. Steve I think we better keep an eye on you. This concludes the first example showing that the resident of Maple Street couldn't trust Steve at the point on. the final example is when Charlie had shot Pete Van Horn and everybody turned on him. But as soon as that fear and suspicion was laid on him he thought it was a good idea to blame Tommy. It's the kid. It's Tommy. He's the one! Charlie says, all the residents of Maple Street were so paranoid that they started to blame Tommy. The child that was helping them figure out what really was going on in the Neighborhood. But this pressure laid on Tommy made him and his mother run away as the residents of Maple Street chased after them. Making both Tommy and his mother fear for their own life as they watch everyone turn on them. Therefore this concludes my paragraph talking about the major themes on The Monsters are Due on Maple Street by Rod Sterling.
