In 1832 there was a group of settlers that staged a rebellion against the Mexican Government. During the rebellion one of their leaders William B. Travis was captured. They decided to try and save him, but they were unsuccessful. They retreated to the Turtle Bayou were they came up with the resolution explaining their actions. In the resolution the identified themselves with Santa Anna and with the constitution of 1824.
And the constitution from 1824!!

In 1833 Stephen F. Austin was chosen to take the resolutions to Mexico City. When he arrived he noticed that the newly elected Santa Anna was nowhere to be found. It took 4 months to finally met with Santa Anna. When they did meet he agreed to allow people from the U.S. into Mexican Texas. He also agreed to make the taxes more far. However he did not allow Texas to be it's own state. When Stephen F. Austin was returning home he was captured and arrested by the Mexican government because when he was aiting for Santa Anna he wrote a letter to San Antonio the Mexican government thought it was am act of treason, so the put him in jail for two years.
We are arresting you because of that letter!
