I agree that disorders of that kind can negatively affect our communication as it starts to make our connections weaker and my responses less effective (Rickenbach Gericke, 2022).
Neurodegenerative disorders that surface during aging such as Alzheimer's disease can really disrupt the connection I have between me and my partner as it breaks down the barriers of our relationship (brain) (Rickenbach Gericke, 2022)..

Lastly, is there any unique ways you two can stay connected (adaptability)?
I can help protect against conflict (infection) and communicate with Neviene (the brain) through my immune surveillance as our communication may begin to be less effective as well as our communication being vital for our relationship's (brain) development (Rickenbach Gericke, 2022).
I can do my part for Ian by regulating our communication and limiting the conflict we face (limiting immune cells to the brain) for lesser chances of long term effects (neuronal damage). I can also defend against possible miscommunication (reducing inflammatory response (Rickenbach Gericke, 2022).
