- The significance of baptism comes from the idea of it marking a new life and personal identification with christ.
- What does this sacrament mean? Why is it important to celebrate?
- Oil symbolizes healing, strength and being chosen.#160;Oil is used#160;on the chest or#160;hands to symbolize asking God#160;for strength and on the head to#160;symbolize being chosen and#160;anointed.
- Water symbolizes the#160;cleansing of a sin andending of an old life, rising to new life and identity in Christ.
- The symbols of baptism are water, a white garment. oil, and a lit candle.
- A lighted candle symbolically and literally#160;dispels darkness and guides#160;those who are lost.
- The white garment symbolizes#160;the newness of life in Christ.#160;In appearance, as well as in spirit, the person is a “new creation.”
- When we come to believe in Jesus as Lord and Saviour, our lives become united to Christ's life. We begin a journey of faith, united to Christ. We renounce service to sin and give our loyalty and service to Christ.
