- The narrator is grieving over the loss of Lenore, his loved one.

- As the narrator opens a shutter, a raven flies and perches on a bust of Pallas.
- Falling Action
- Nevermore
- The conflict in The Raven is man vs. self, because the narrator is struggling within himself-he is grieving and is unable to cope with the loss of his loved one.
- Resolution
- When the narrator asks if he'll ever see Lenore again, the raven repeatedly say "nevermore"
- The narrator, angry at hearing the raven's reply, yells at the raven to leave, but the raven replies "nevermore"
- Leave Now raven!
- The raven never leaves, and the narrator soul will never be whole again.
