"The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" Theme: Don't Jump to conclusions.
One of the main themes in "Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling is Don't Jump to Conclusions. All throughout the story everyone kept blaming eachother for being the monster. At first Tommy said he had been reading books about monsters from space. Then he had told everybody, " They don't want you to go there. They send four people down to a mother, father, and two children who look like humans (74)." Now everyone thinks aliens are behind everything. Then, the people think Mr. Goodman is the alien because his car started when he wasn't close to it. (76). Lastly, after Charlie was blamed for being the monster he said, "Whoever it is it has to be Tommy. Since he knew so much about these monsters in the first place. (85)"In conclusion this shows that Don't jump to conclusions is the theme
"All by itself, He wasn't anywhere near the car."
