  • In 1854, the Kansas-Nebraska Act allowed settlers to decide on slavery by popular sovereignty, which angered many Northerners.

  • Both pro-slavery and anti slavery settlers rushed to Kansas to influence the vote which created a lot of tension because Kansas's decision on slavery could change the balance of power in Congress.

Recents events such as the Sack of Lawrence and the Pottawatomie Massacre, many homes have been destroyed and theres lots of tension. With two rival governments now claiming control, we can clearly seen how the violence continues to spread.
