- As Darius showed, hurricanes can be devastating for affected areas. One of the reasons why Harvey was able to cause so much damage was because tornadoes formed, hitting multiple states throughout south central and south eastern America.

- TORNADOES CAUSED BY HARVEY WREAK HAVOC
- Hurricane Harvey caused multiple destructive tornadoes. One hit the land northeast of Seadrift, Texas on August 25th. Tornadoes caused destruction in Sienna Plantation, Texas. In addition, Evangeline, Louisiana was affected by an EF2 tornado, and North Carolina suffered from tornado damage caused by multiple tornadoes. Structures throughout the state of Alabama also faced tornado damage.
- These tornadoes can be explained by the perfect conditions that hurricanes create for tornado formation.
- Hurricanes cause intense, rotating thunderstorms to form. These powerful storms are strong enough to create destructive tornadoes.
- Hurricanes are fueled by hot, humid air. This causes the atmosphere to become unstable, causing cold, dry air to be above the warm, moist air, which is abnormal due to conduction. The warm air, which is less dense, will attempt to rise, pushing on the layer of cold air.

- Hurricanes create rapid winds that change direction over shirt distances (high wind shear). This can cause air to start to move in a tight coil motion.
- If this coil of moving air is flipped up by the push of the hot, humid air trying to rise over the cold, dry air, it will form a tornado. The tornado swallows more warm air near the ground, and stretches downwards. When this happens, the swirling air is officially a tornado.
