Storyboard-Text

  • "I mean, it's kinda messed up that we're protesting a drug dealer's death, but (11.11)-"
  • "He got killed even though he wasn't doing s***? So it's cool he got killed? But I thought you were protesting it (11.14)?"
  • "In the meantime tell your boys the mayor and the police chief to get them f****** tanks out of my neighborhood, Daddy says loudly (12.109)."
  • "A voice booms from the armored vehicle, All persons found violating the curfew will be subject to arrest (12.5)."
  • "Claim folks need to act peaceful, but rolling through here like we in a god**** war (12.109)."
  • "Special or not, you shouldn't have risked your job for me (14.178)."
  • "I hate that I let myself fall into that mind-set of trying to rationalize his death. And at the end of the day, you don't kill someone for opening a car door. If you do, you shouldn't be a cop (14.185)."
  • "I wouldn't have killed Khalil, by the way, Uncle Carlos says. I don't know a lot of stuff, but I do know that (14.193)."
  • "I told Brian that, he says, looking at his knuckles. After I clocked him. Told the chief too. Actually, I think I screamed it loud enough for everybody in the precinct to hear. It doesn't take away from what I did though. I dropped the ball on Khalil (14.187)."
  • This scene is significant to the story, because it shows how the media is destroying Starr's relationship with Hailey. Hailey believes that Khalil's death does not matter as much, because the news outlets are reporting that he was a drug dealer and had drugs and a gun in his car (even though he had neither one in his possession). This scene further leads to the destruction of their relationship and continues to illustrate how the news and media are creating negative and false perceptions of people.
  • This scene is significant to the story, because it depicts how the riots and protests have reached a point where the police think that they need to have tanks and other deadly weapons to stop them. It also shows that the police believe the only way they can end the riots is by using force and fear tactics to keep people off the streets. This scene further increases the tension between the police and the people of Garden Heights.
  • This scene is significant to the story, because it shows how Uncle Carlos views Brian as a bad cop. He believes that he never would have killed Khalil if he was put in the same situation. This scene also shows Starr that there is someone she can trust and someone who also agrees that Officer Brian is not a great person.
