  • Partying
  • Cheating and Affairs
  • Sad Death
  • This figure of partying and alcohol shows the decline of morality because there were, "floating rounds of cocktails [everywhere in] the garden outside" (Fitzgerald 40). This shows how these people didn't care if alcohol was prohibited or not so their morality was declining every time they decided to drink since it was illegal at this time. Fitzgerald included this in the book because this happened in the 1920s they drank and partied so they could feel something.
  • In this scene Tom and Myrtle are having an affair even though they both have partners. Tom even brought Nick once to meet "Tom Buchanan's mistress" (Fitzgerald 20). This shows their decline of morality since they are not being loyal and true to the people they were bounded to for life. The author put this in the book to show how this happened a lot because people just wanted to feel love since this was such a time on uncertainty but could never reach that love feel.
  • In this scene Gatsby and Daisy killed Myrtle and drove away without seeing how she was. This showed a decline or morality because they didn't stop to help her or check if she was okay. Gatsby "didn't even stop his car" (Fitzgerald 88). This shows their lack of morality. Fitzgerald's author's purpose of including this decline of morality was to show how they are rich and didn't care about others because of their reckless disregard for others.
