  • LATER STILL
  • "It's too risky. And your mother would never allow it."
  • TO THOSE WHO WAIT
  • "What do you mean? You mean he's here? He's already here?"
  • OLLY
  • Where do you want to go the most?
  • This chapter is based in Madeline's bedroom after Madeline had asked Carla several times if Olly could come over. Madeline asks Carla again, but she cuts her off and tells her, "We can't always get what we want." Madeline knows it's risky but still wants to see him and is willing to lie to her mom. Carla questions why girls her age think they can deceive their mothers.
  • PERSPECTIVES
  • Classic symptoms.
  • After lunch, two days later. Carla tells Madeline that Olly is in the sunroom waiting for her. Even after saying that Madeline can't visit Olly. Madeline is surprised and rushes to get ready.
  • WONDERLAND
  • Did you have an argument?
  • This chapter is now based in the sunroom of Madeline's house. A room that was made by her mother to simulate the outside world with fake plants. Olly is present in the room when Madeline enters, and they begin an awkward conversation. Both Madeline and Olly notice features they didn't notice before about each other.
  • MAKES YOU STRONGER
  • So you told him not to write to you and then he didn't write to you. This is what you're telling me?
  • Based in Madeline's bedroom the next morning, Madeline wakes up and thinks she may be sick. Carla takes her temperature and assures her that she is not sick and just maybe lovesick. Both Madeline and Carla talk about how Madeline may be in love with Olly. Madeline denies it.
  • I'm not in love. I can't be in love.
  • After Olly visited Madeline, Madeline told Olly not to message her because she was busy that weekend and wanted to focus on her schoolwork because she didn't want to worry her mom. Madeline expects Olly to send several unsubjected emails over the weekend. But she refuses to check her computer. Even if she really wanted to.
  • Madeline later unearths her laptop in her room and is disappointed to see that Olly has not messaged her all weekend. Carla asked Madeline why she was frowning, and Madeline told her Olly hadn't messaged her all weekend. She then tells Carla that Madeline had told him not to message her, but she still expected something. Carla takes Madeline's vitals and they talk about Olly.
