  • Yes, it has been. Thank you, Uncle Uchendu for welcoming us.
  • Uchendu, who happened to be Okonkwo's Uncle, received him warmly with the rest of his relatives.
  • Welcome home, Okonkwo! Come, come! It's been a long, tiring journey coming here, isn't it?
  • They helped Okonkwo to settle down and start anew...
  • to lending yam seed to start his farming business!
  • from building the huts which later formed into a compound
  • Soon, the rain signaling the beginning of the farming season came unusually--
  • in a form of hail
  • All his life, Okonkwo tried to do his best just to be one of the clan lords
  • there's no more reason for him to do his best
  • but now that the possibility is gone...
  • Uchendu knew that his nephew was in utter disappointment, but he also knew that it's best to talk to him after his son's wedding, in which Okonkwo would take part.
  • Uchendu, together with Okonkwo and the rest of his family member gathered the next day
  • A man stays in his fatherland when life is good, but goes back and seek refuge to his motherland when all is but bitter and harsh.
  • Did you know that one of the common names that we give out is Nneka which means "Mother Supreme"
  • Uchendu then used an analogy of children who stays with their fathers but calls for their mother when fathers beat them. He advised Okonkwo to feel at ease in his motherland and receive the comfort it brings with a grateful heart.
  • Uchendu reminded Okonkwo that others have it worse
  • I have lost five out of my six wives and twenty-two children whom I've buried all.
  • I did not hang myself and I am still alive!
