- What should I do?
- It was almost Christmas, and Mia was excited. Everything was nearly ready. Mia's letter to Santa had been sent, the tree was up and mom was busy baking for the holiday. Mia could hardly wait for Santa to come.
- 2 x 2 = 42 x 3 = 62 x 4 = 8
- Then, suddenly, out of nowhere, Mia had a troubling thought. Poor Santa! What a difficult job it must be to prepare all those millions of toys and then deliver them on a single night-that was more work than could ever imagine. Yet as far as she knew, he received nothing in return. It doesn't seem quite right.

- "Mom, does anyone give Santa a Christmas gift? she asked on the way to school. "Oh, I'm sure someone does," Mom replied. "I've never give him anything," said Mia. " Don't worry, Mia," Mom said. "Santa knows everything. He knows that you love him." But Mia worried anyway.
- Mia talked to her best friend, Bella, at school. "Don't you think it's kind of bad," she asked, " that Santa brings us presents every Christmas and we don't give him anything?' "Hmmmmmm," said Bella. "It does seem a little selfish. Maybe we should at least write him a thank-you note". "That's a good idea," said Mia thinking deeply, "but there must something more I could do..."
- Mia thought all day. She wanted to give Santa a present, but she didn't have any money. And Mom didn't seem to be interested in the problem. Then Mia had an idea. Mom was baking special Christmas cakes for their neighbors. Perhaps Mia could bake, too! "I bet Santa would love some Christmas cookies," she thought, "and a cup of hot chocolate. After all, he rides in an open sleigh in the cold at night!'
- Mia approached Mom. "Mom, you know how happy you feel when you bake Christmas cakes for the neighbors?" "Yes," answered Mom, smiling. "Why?" "I would like to bake, too," said Mia. "I think baking will make me very happy. "Okay, said Mom. "Would you like to help me with the Christmas cakes?' "No," replied Mia. "I'd like to make some special Christmas cookies for Santa" "That's a nice thought, Mia" said Mom.
