  • Freud believes in defense mechanisms that can protect a person's ego. There are many different kinds, but one is repression. Repression is when a person purposefully forgets something bad or embarrassing that happened to them to protect their ego.

  • Horney believed that there were different ways people would react to a lack of love and friendship. One of the ways is withdrawal which means someone will move away from people when they feel a lack of love.

  • Carl Rogers believed that all people are inherently good and that they are constantly striving to become their ideal self. Doing things and learning things to reach your ideal self is what he believes makes up a person's personality.

  • Costa and McCrae believe that there are 5 traits that people can base their personality off of. There is open, conscientious, extrovert, agreeable, and neurotic. Neurotic people might be more anxious or unstable.

  • Eysenck believed that people's personalities could be based on a spectrum of two traits: extrovert vs introvert, and stable vs unstable. Someone could be any mix of the two, if someone is introverted and unstable then they could be seen as pessimistic.
  • Bandura believed in a lot of different social-cognitive traits and effects. One of those could be the Spotlight Effect which is when a person believes that everyone is paying attention to them and their flaws or behaviors.
