  • Women had few rights in the Progressive Era. They had unequal pay and they lacked the right to vote.

  • President Theodore Roosevelt was Instrumental in using muckraking to push public safety bills.
  • Investigative journalism gave rise to muckrakers. The muckrakers were set on exposing the corruption in government and business. At the heart of muckraking was this corruption.
  • Anti-trust action and public safety bills such as the Pure Food and Drug Act satiated the demands of those inflamed by the muckraking.
