I'm doing great! Thank you for asking. Though, I want to ask for your guidance today.
Hello Bert!
Hi Joel! How are you doing today?
You know, this is the first time I will be doing Talking Points discussion. Is there any advise you can give me on how I can do my 1:1 discussion with my direct reports?
I appreciate you reaching out to me. Talking Points is designed to have meaningful conversations about outcome, performance and development.
Let me share to you these 3 conversation tips you can use. First, listen actively. Ensure that employees will feel that they are listened to and create an environment where they can openly share their updates, achievements, and challenges.
Second, provide meaningful feedforward conversation approach. One example could be asking them on what support do they need in order to succeed.
That's great. Giving feedback is good but 1:1 conversation will be more meaningful when we give feedforward statements.
Thank you, Bert. The tips you shared will surely help me on how to effectively conduct my 1:1 discussion.
I agree. And lastly, don't forget that Talking Points should be a coaching conversation. Thus, use the CLEAR conversation model as a guide on how to navigate your 1:1 discussion with your team members.
